I’ll have to figure out the mystery behind this one. The address would have been in the Center, where it meets Gibbs St, but whatever was there is gone now. There are just a few houses there built after these graduates lived there. Why were a whole bunch of unrelated High School graduates living there? Stay tuned as I try to figure that out with the historic society.

March 7, 2021 at 10:59 pmNot sure if this is still monitored but…. I believe this was the address of the Baptist Home for Children of Missionaries in the late 19th early 20th Century.
My dad and his sister lived here while their parents were missionaries in Yachow, China. My dad, Philip H. Smith, graduated from Newton High School in 1934. My grandfather was Frederick Newton Smith.
I am doing some research on that period in my dad’s life. Would be happy to share what I know in exchange for any information. You might have on the time period from 1928-1935.
I hope this is reaching someone!
